Dear all, we are going three weeks to Sumatra, we are wondering if we have left something out that we really should see, like berigasti, bukkittingi, danau manijau, harau valley?. Is it better to chose some of the islands close to padang rather than the banyaks? We like snorkeling.
We are somewhat rushed, so we hope you have time to answer soon:-)

5-6 august medan
7 august bukit lawang - arriving lunchtime
8-10 august bukit lawang (trek)
11 august travel from bukit lawang to lake toba
12 august lake toba
13 august drive from lake toba to singkil and ferry to banyak
14-18 august banyak
19 august drive from singkil to padang sidempuan
20 drive from padang sedempuan to kerinci
21 august: kerinci
22 august to 25 august kerinci seblat national park, climbing mount kerinci and going on mount tujuh perhaps.

26-27 august padang
28th of august- go padang to Kuala Lumpur.

Pulau Weh is well worth a visit. Stay at Ipioh for great snorkelling and diving.

I think West Sumatra is the nicest part of the island and you are skipping it altogether (Padang itself is hardly a place to visit).
Pulau Weh would be too far out of your way.
Kerinci doesn't need 6 full days.

Hi Lazlo, so - where is west sumatra - defined, which locations? I was actually under the impression that Padang was a nice city to visit.
Regarding Kerinci, we want to so some tours there (climbing kerinci and tujuh, so we would need those days).

So you like the rest of the itinarary?.

I agree on Pulau Weh being too far away.

Kerinci is a 2 days climb, Gunung Tujuh a short day.
So that's 3 days in total.

Of the places you have listed, Padang, Bukittingi, Maninjau and Harau are in West Sumatra. Of course, there is much more. You could easily google a map of the province to see what it covers.

I might also swap the Banyaks for the islands off Padang, for reasons of location.
The latter have less accommodation though, I think.

Yeah i did that. Ok, I've checked the Mantawais. They seem more for surfing. I am looking more for snorkeling and white beaches, but that seems to be more Banyaks.

I didn't mean the Mentawais but the much smaller islands much closer to Padang.

Yep, they look great. Pagang, Sironjong, Sikuoi, Cubadak, Sirendah, like those right?

No need to stay in Medan, just go direct from the airport to Bukit Lawang.
