jewelry made of it back into the US? The silver jewelry here in Bali is outstanding in quality and price so I bought a ton of it incluing lots with the red coral in it. Now I am wondering if it on some endangered species list taht prohibits its import into the US. Does anyone know if this qualifies. And does anyone know where to find the list of prohibited items for import into the US. I checked US Customs website adn get no informtion there.
thanks
and dont tell me to just hide it. I bought so much AI am going to have to declare it all.

Actually most silver in Bali is very low silver content, great designs though. And as for red coral, it's only native to Med, so you will almost cert have faux coral - so your ignorance has not been irresponsible this time, by pure chance.
from Google Answers:
- Dealers who traffic in illegally obtained, endangered red coral are
often able to "certify" that the coral is "pre-endangerment", even if
the certification is completely fake;
- Even if the coral really is pre-endangerment, then the harvest of it
contributed to making the coral endangered -- and it is obvious that
you are people of good conscience -- would you really want to be a
part of that? Furthermore, purchasing pre-endangered red coral means
that one more person somewhere else will be purchasing illegal coral;
- Because of the endangerment, genuine red coral is quite expensive,
but there are a number of options for obtaining quite realistic "faux"
red coral

There is red coral in Bali or at least there was 25 years ago as i have a big bowl of the stuff that was washed up on the beach when Candi dasa still had one ! It may not be THE red coral but it is certaily red coral and very pretty ! Jimbo

You shouldn't be buying coral in the first place, 'endangered' or not.
The more people buy 'un-endangered' coral the more chance there is of it eventually becoming 'endangered'.
Take a picture!
Besides, I think ALL hard corals are officially considered "endangered", and (at least in theory) require CITES permits to export.

silver jewelry in bali outstanding in quality and price? if you look at the actual silver content (the stamp 925 on the back is only for decoration!) it is very overpriced...and the 'red coral' will be fake too, no doubt (but that solves any problems you might have with customs, haha)
The .925 solver staped on the jewelry here is accurate. I tested several pices I bough at 3 differet jewelrs. The red coral is real but infused with red plastic. The test here is put a match to it and it goes up adn flames and waht is left is just coarl. However, all the other shell jewelry is real adn untouched exceptfo a layer of lacquer.
This place is gerat for jewelry. And if you are not sure of what yous ay you shold not defame the induatry in this poor country.
