Hi. I am an American citizen and I will be in Indonesia/Bali for three weeks soon. I have already bought a USA-Jakarta ticket. I have decided to try to work in a quick trip to Sydney (or perhaps another Asia country) during my stay. So I will enter Indonesia (where my initial ticket is to) fly to Sydney or elsewhere at some point (maybe immediately after entering the airport and going through customs and getting my bag) and back to Indonesia and then back to the USA. Will I need a multiple entry visa? Or will they give me two single entry visa within a short space of time. If you have a single entry visa and quickly leave Indonesia and then return after a week will you be able to enter again? Or must I have a multiple entry visa. Thanks!! Alex

There is no multiple entry visa for Indonesia.
Anyway, you don't need visas at all. You can enter without a visa for a stay of up to 30 days each time.

My info & thoughts:
on East-Indonesia.info: Indonesia, Maluku, West Papua, Raja Ampat & Indonesian Visas
on Thorn Tree: Seeing Orangutans, Kalimantan, Kiribati & Tuvalu

Actually there are multiple entry visas but not for tourism. When you enter Indonesia go directly to the immigration line, do not go to the place where you pay for visas. Those are for people who want to buy the extendable 30 day visas which you do NOT need.

By the way with only three weeks you have barely enough time to scratch Indonesia much less Australia. Six months for each is barely enough. Try to see no more than two to three places in Indonesia - one place would be enough.

You will need a visa in advance for Australia before you get on a plane.

Fo r Australia, just apply for an ETA online.

Not understanding why you need to enter Indonesia and then exit during your 3 weeks. Immigration lines and flights etc are enough to make me not want to add another country trip. Why not do your second country at the end of your trip on the way to somewhere else?

Also the ETA for Australia works very well. I applied online and got my approval online in less than an hour, although they suggest 2 weeks ahead.
