Hi,
I am planning to spend the second half of october in Indonesia (10 days Bali and 10 in Java). How is the weather there? Would it be better than in December? Is it worth to visit Bali and Java in December instead of October?
In Bali I'd also like to get the PADI certificate. Could anyone recommend a good and cheap company? Is Bali a good place to get the PADI?
Finally, is worth to take malaria pills in Bali and Java? In Java I plan to visit Jakarta, Yogjakarta, Gunung Bromo and Borobudur. Could I avoid the pills if I get AIRcon hostals in these places?
Thanks a lot,

Hi- we were in Bali last year and in Oct for a month. It rained only 2 times-very dry. I suggest you get your PADI endorsements at a 5 star PADI dive center. When you’re in Bali, jump over to Lombok Island, which is the next Island over and go to Gili Trawangan. Great diving, plus a large population of dive operators. To start, Google - Blue Marlin 5 star and check out the cost or any other operators on Gili Trawangan.
Hope this helps
Derek

Plenty of PADI places on Bali, but avoid the resorts where you have to go far before reaching the dive area (Kuta, Sanur) and opt for smaller places closer to the dive spots (like Padangbai, which has two good dive schools).
I agree with #1 - get the direct Perama boat from Padangbai to the Gili islands and do it there, there are some diving schools on each of the 3 islands, all have the same (low) prices to avoid price wars and guarantee quality.
