I'm traveling to Jakarta this weekend and will be there for about 9 days. I've heard that it's not a place to be at for a long time. I'm on a tight budget due to other travels. I was wondering where I could go that isn't really a tourist destination and what can I do? If anyone wants to join let me know.

Do you mean 9 days based in Jakarta & suggestions for day trips?

Doesn't necessarily need to be in Jakarta.
It can be around.

You can fly cheaply to a number of more interesting destinations from Jakarta.
Or if flying sounds out of your budget, can take the train to Yogyakarta, and visit that city, nearby Solo, the temples around them, and maybe even Bromo in East Java before returning to Jakarta.
Jakarta itself, as well as closer destinations in West Java, would be far less interesting.

For 1 weekend I recommend to join an Indonesian backpackers group to Krakatau. The meeting point is usually Merak Harbour.
