I have passed through Padangbai on a number of occasions but have never stayed there. I am planning on spending some time there early in the new year. Can anyone recommend a good place (inexpensive) to spend a week or two? Appreciate any input.

If you are interested in Padang Bai despite the horns blaring to announce the frequent boat departures then it can be a nice place. Perhaps best to only commit for one night and see how you feel before you stay for the whole week.
