Don't worry about ice in Indonesia. It practically ALWAYS comes from factories that make it under sterile conditions from pure water. You might want to avoid meat products and raw vegetables from street vendors.

I would also steer clear of 'Hoka Hoka Bento'. It's a chain restaurant found in numerous food courts of shopping malls. There's been numerous reported outbreaks of food poisoning stemming from these restaurants.

In saying that, your husband could avoid all of the above mentioned places and will likely still succumb to a a disagreeable food bug in his first few weeks.

I agree with tiler's last statement. My wife and I were there and ate at only "clean looking" places and never off the street alot of our food we cooked ourselves and I still got typhoid. It's not really that expensive to make sure you only drink bottled water. Seriously though after my very crappy experience with that we're already in the planning stages of our next trip back there.
