Thanks Lazslo.Yes, i already realize how the things are . Yesterday i was chating with the guy by whatssap .(i didnt understand good his info) Effectively, is necesary to board the ferry from weda to Patani, then rent a boat in Patani to get that islands .I am trying to find out how far are there from Patani . (to calculate the cost of the charter boat to there )
Thanks a lot
Note that at least as per my last visit there, Patani has no places to stay or any other facilities for visitors.
You need to speak Indonesian, stay with locals, etc.
There are much more easily accessible islands with great beaches and snorkelling in North Maluku, for example the North Loloda ones. They are accessible by regilar public boats from Tobelo and the coral is great right around the inhabited islands - though a day charter can be useful to visit remote, roadless beaches around the larger islands.

Yes, we know that the acomodztion would be in local houses, this is not a problem for us.Respect to the islands near Tobelo, we have been there last year.Snorkelling wasnt any special , to be honest .We are looking for something better than that ...Anyway, we like Ternate and Halmahera so if we finallly decide to go that area, the ferry from Weda looks like a nice way to get Sorong.
In raja4, we are thinking in going to the Ayau islands group(after read a post speaking about public transportation to there ).Do you know about this atoll? And what about north Waigeo(it looks like the public boat also stops there )
Thanks a lot
@karmakolos I don't think you have read my post carefully enough.
I was talking about the North Loloda Islands where I don't think you have been.
But whatever. Try going to Patani's islands by public boat if you prefer.

Sorry Lazslo, certainly i havent been in Lodola islands . i didnt read the post properly and i thought you speak about the islands in frontera if Tobelo.Anyway,now we have found them,.(and the info related to them in your webpage)so maybe they can be added to our next trip to Halmahera
Sorry for the inconvenience.

@karmakolos
One last info about the Weda to Sorong boat: It actually stops in Waisai at least it stopped in Waisai after Sorong and then straight to GEBE next morning when i took it last time!!!

@Laszlo
Your suggestion on North loloda islands caught my eyes.
I will have 5 weeks in Siau/Sangihe/Talaud, but already i am pretty sure i won't get my snorkeling fix, so i will certainly focus on socializing with my friends and volcanoes and the like
I am not even sure to be able to make it to Karakelong (Talaud), it seems to be an island more geared towards those with birding interests!
I checked the very helpful "flightconnections" website and it gave me a direct Wings air flight to Galela from Manado...closer than the airp!!
Let's say i have 10 spare days, will it be reasonnable to try the North loloda islands from Manado. Do you think it is doable? Worth the pain and transport time? Any pdate on transportation, other than from Tobelo? maybe from Ternate now?
Any bits of info highly apreciated. Many thanx
Absolutely doable unless the weather is really bad for days on end.
No idea how frequent boats from Ternate are.
But if thinking of flying to Galela, why not go from Tobelo?
I should have basic info on my website.
Btw, why shouldn't 5 weeks in Sangir-Talaud provide some decent snorkelling?
Unless badly bombed all around, those islands should be similar to North Maluku.

@Laszlo
Thanx for the confirmation
As per the Sangihe group, my friend who had just opened the GH there is raving about some great reefs and snorkeling.... i really don't know.
We have been in Pulau Hatta together so he knows what a great snorkeling is expected to be. I guess i will only have the confirmation once my head underwater :-)
My plans are open, i only have my flight to manado and one night booked then the next morning off to SIAU and then northwards...So maybe i ll get hooked to the place and forget about Maluku altogether
I have had my first ever snorkeling experience in my life in the Bandas then followed straight by more reefs in Raja Ampat...so i think i will carry this "first crush" with me eternally and be a victim of "comparing" to every new island and reef.
I am sure there will be many other on-land tradeoffs everywhere if the underwaterwrold is deceiving!
Thank you again for your generous availability
