Hello all,
Planning my second trip to Bali in September. Was there last year in October and got to see a mola-mola off Nusa Penida during one of my dives. I am hooked and am going back in September to see more molas...and the surfing has got me hooked too.
I am wondering what choices in airlines I have flying from Hong Kong to Bali? My flight from Canada stops at Hong Kong and I kind of have to find my own way to Bali.
Appreciate any help out there.

check out this site which shows routings for discount airlines: http://www.airninja.com/

Looks like JetStar flies from Hong Kong to Jakarka, don't know the fare, but JetStar is usually slightly more expensive than Tiger and AirAsia. To get around Indonesia there are many discount airlines-- LionAir is your best best, I don't think they have a very good website, but it should cost you no more than 40 USD.

It's a good way of working out the schedules, and then you can go direct to the airlines.
This is what we have done....my wife and I are also flying from HK.....this weekend.....we used zuji.com to book a China Airlines flight to Jakarta, and then went direct to the Garuda website / subsequent tel. no. in Indonesia for an onward flight to Lombok. This was much cheaper than booking through Garuda in Hong Kong, although the line was terrible, and the payment via telephone was a nightmare........it kept saying press 2 for English, and then babbling on in Indonesian.....spent a lot in phone calls, and in the end phoned up the Hong Kong office of Garuda, who have arranged for us to pay when we pick up the tickets in Jakarta....
For peace of mind, it may be more worthwhile stumping up the extra cash to get it all sorted from HK.....Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Keep in mind that both of the engines from johnny's post DO NOT include any discount airlines. The discount airlines may not always have the exact routings you want, but they are definately worth checking out. For example, Tiger Air currently has a 90 USD fare from Guangzhou to Singapore. The best 'special' fare that I can find from Hong Kong to Singapore is about 150 USD on United Airlines. It is worth checking out the Air Ninja tool for the discount airlines, because they do not appear in standard travel search engines.

Good advice Colin....Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I will certainly be checking out ninja next time....
I'm flying from Hong Kong to Bali in September too. There's actually no budget airline connecting these 2 cities. Jetstar runs from HK to Jakarta with a stopover at Singapore. It's not cheap and u have to buy another ticket from Jakarta to Depensar.
Other than expensive Cathay Pacific, there are 3 airlines connecting HK with Depensar: Garuda, Singapore Airline and Malaysia Airlines. I suggest you compare the price of your visit period from www.zuji.com.hk, if it shows that SA or MA offers better price , then buy the ticket from website of these airlines directly since they dont charge you service fee as zuji does. You can save few euro on that. If zuji shows that Gardua offer better price then buy it on zuji since as jonny said, Garuda's line is horrible.
