Back from 2 weeks in Bali and can recommend a guide based in Ubud who does driving and treking
His name is Wayan Suka (mobile 081 338 640 415 , telephone 976686 email amansuka@yahoo.com). He has reasonable prices and is honest in his dealings with you and can take you on car or motorbike excursions. He usually hangs out on Monkey Forest Road across from the market.
Ubud accommodation was a mixed bag - stayed there 6 nights and moved to 4 hotels/homestays! Sri Bungalows was probably the best of the lot - quiet and very clean. Nicks Pension was OK but stayed in bungalow near river and the neighbours were loud. I would avoid Guyatri Bungalows as the room I had was facing into the sun all day and hot as all hell at night plus nothing shut properly and when I moved in I found someone and used the toilet! I found the service not that good also. Unfortunately I paid a deposit so couldn't leave. The grounds & pool look inviting but check out your rooms carefully.
Stayed at Panorama Cottages in Legian (Jl. Sriwijaya Legian Kuta / tel (0361) 755722) - it is just 5-7 min inland from Legian Hotel. The cottage stayed in was reasonable and overlooked a lilypond. If you are looking for transport Oka from Panorama Cottages can take you around on her motorbike. Being a single fremale traveller I paid for Oka to take me around local sights which worked out a lot cheaper than going by car. Her email okaagung@yahoo.com.
