Hi all,

I'm planning on spending 6 months in Bali this year. I have a chronic illness and find moving round pretty difficult, so I'm trying to find the easiest way to manage the visa extensions.

Does anyone know how much it currently costs to get an agent to handle the extensions? And, if I do get an agent, is it correct that I still need to make one visit to the immigration office for every extension? (I was hoping to stay in Amed, but I'm not sure if there is an immigration office close by).

If the agent is too expensive, I was thinking of staying in the Canggu area instead, and just going to the denpasar office myself. Can anyone tell me approximately how long it would take to get from Canggu to Denpasar immigration? It doesn't look that far on the map, but I know the traffic can be a nightmare around there.

Thanks!

What I know is using an agent usually requires you to visit the immigration office only once per extension, DIY usually 3 times. The agent usually charges about 850k all in (mid-2016).

Thanks Yumseng, that pretty much answers my question!

Have you stayed in Canggu before?

No I haven't - I've stayed in Ubud, Amed, Kuta and Nusa Lembongan and like them all except Kuta. I'm really looking for somewhere where I can relax and rest. Are you a fan of Canggu?

Not been back in Canggu for about 6-7yr now. Recently a work colleague stayed there with her husband for 4 days. She was telling us the local taxis won't allow outsiders to pick up passengers, so you wont be able to book Bluebird taxis & definitely not Uber, Grab or Gocar. Outside taxis are allowed to drop passengers in Canggu but no pick ups. The local taxi drivers charge just about double that of Bluebird rates & almost triple that of apps.

How is it that you have chosen Canggu? The transport can be a problem as mentioned above, plus I think it's rather grotty. Perhaps be more flexible with your plans and consider either Sanur or Candi Dasa which are not brilliant but not as far as Amed. You could also consider other parts of Gianyar (the regency which Ubud is in...)

Hi yumseng- well, that sounds like a bit of a nightmare! Thanks for the heads up.
Cuscus - I've been to sanur and candidasa and didn't really love them. But I do like the area around Ubud, so maybe I'll look there as well. Thanks!
