If you are traveling to Tianjin (from Beijing) and your goal is to see the city of Tianjin, get off at the North Tianjin station. Right now the main train station is under repair and (some of the) fast trains from Beijing make a stop at North Tainjin and then go on to a temporary temporary Tianjing station very, very far from the city center. But be aware not all return trains from TJ to BJ stop at the north station so some research needs be done.

If I wanted to train seriously in gong fu for an extended period of time in China, say a year, where would you recommend and why?

Is the original shaolin temple in song shan mountain THE place to go or has it become something of a tourist gimmic?

Which is the best type of gong fu to learn and can you recommend any books or websites?

Thanks

Am intending/hoping to cycle in Tibet August to Spt/Oct. Will be in Hong Kong with bike before. If anyone can answer any of the following I'd be grateful.

1) what are the most likely options to get my bike in and arrive with TTB ? Plane from Chengdu ? train from Chegdu? or is there an overland route in ? Golmud route looks rather long not sure how can get TTB other alternative ?

2) I understand that the Semo La is the highest motorable pass in the world. Is it likely that I will be allowed to…

Hi,
Do the main cities in Japan have hairdressers / barbers who speak English? I'm going to japan for 6 months soon and have heard horror stories about the hairdressers over there (because they aren't used to cutting gaijin hair). Is this true? Are there any places like Toni & Guy that are more proffesional than the average back street barber, but who also speak a bit of English?
Thanks!

Hi Guys!

Which kind of weather should we expect in SOuth-East Yunnan (Yuanyang, Jianshui, Puzhehei), South-East Guizhou (From Kaili to Zhaoxing) and Guangxi (Nanning, Guilin) in the first half of April? from what I read, there are some big regional differences as far as rainfall is concerned.

Moreover, what is the approximate altitude of Yuanyang?

Thanks

We are two couples hoping to save some money by waiting until we reach Beijing to purchase other transportation like: (1) an overnight, soft-sleeper train from Beijing to Xian, (2) an overnight, soft-sleeper train from Xian to Chongqing, (3) a Yangtze cruise from Chongqing to Wuhan and (4) a plane from Wuhan to Shanghai.

In particular, the flight to Shanghai is on Saturday afternoon, April 28 which seems to be just at the start of a "Golden Week". Is April 28 a problem traveling in China and…

Hi, we want to fly Katmandu - Lhasa - Katmandu for a week within our 5 weeks trip to Nepal. I am in correspondence with Katmandu travel agencies for Tibetan visas flight. I got today a letter from one Katmandu agent that says:

"In Lhasa we have to send a guide to the airport to pick you up because otherwise you will not be allowed out of the airport. After that you are free."

I am totally puzzled :-))

Can anyone comment on that?

I know that everybody tries to sell expensive tours if you visit Tibet
