Hey guys

I'm coming to Tokyo next year and came up with an inspirational idea of getting in some snow action while I'm there. When is the snow season near to Tokyo? Is skiing all year round or only at certain months of the year?

Might sound stupid, but I can be dense at times!!

We are planning to travel from Yangshuo (near Guilin) to Kunming. As far as I know, the most convenient way is to take the bus from Yangshuo to Nanning (6hours) and then the night train from Nanning to Kunming (K393??). We are trying to avoid Guilin, but maybe it's better to go by bus to Guilin first and then by bus and train on to Nanning and Kunming? Has anybody crossed the Nepali - Tibetan border recently on an individual Chinese Visa issued outside of Tibet? Is there any way to do so coming from Kathmandu? Let say I have a 3/6 months individual visa but I don't have money to join an orginized group and for some reasons I can't start in China but will come from Kathmandu instead . My husband and I are looking for advise on this journey. We are in Dali now and plan to head to Lijang in a few days (Feb. 24).
We would love to share a car with 2 more people for this trip!!! We are 31 years of age, very laid back and have been traveling Asia for about 5 months now. Loving every moment!!!!!

i found a posting about the train from hohhot to ub but it was dated 2004. i can only assume things have changed. i plan on crossing the border in july. so, many questions. how hard will it be to buy a train ticket in hohhot at that time? do the trains run daily? after crossing the border to zamon ude(?), will it be easy to buy a ticket to ub? and when is the festival? should i try to travel earlier? many thanks for any suggestions. advice. and happy trails to all of you.

So I am going to be arriving into Nepal on the 1st of May this year and hanging in and around Kathmandu before heading off overland to Lhasa and hopefully catching the train back to Guangzhou then a bus back to Hong Kong (home!) in time for the 24th May.

My (VERY) rough plan is this:

7-10 days in KMD
- Including all the important temples/markets
- Perhaps 2-3 Days at Gaida or another wildlife park.
- A wee bit of chillage and beer time.

Then the overland trip to Lhasa via-Shigatse, Gyantse etc…
