The wonderful Seishin 18-kippu season if almost upon us again, and this time the ticket costs a mere 8,000yen. My question is, can you use the "sunrise seto" overnight train from Okayama (and other places) to Tokyo on this ticket, or does it count as limited express?

Any other ju-hachi-kippu ideas welcome...

Doing on Trans Mong. in May and don't intend stopping off after Ulan Ude en route to Beijing, our final stop. I am an Irish citizen. What's the deal with a Mongolian visa if we don't get off the train? Can you apply for a transit visa or do you have to get a tourist visa? I was going to stop off in Ulan Bataar for a day or so but have changed my mind. Thanks in advance for replies, kit.

I was reading through the hundreds of posts and only found one on this topic. The person suggested 800HKD as a daily budget without accomodation.
Considering there will be a lot of walking around and eating from markets as well as restaurants... is this still a reasonable budget? Or can it be done on less?

I'm a little confuse regarding the usage of JR Pass.
I planning a 1 wk visit to Japan end of Mar. Will be travelling around Tokyo- Kyoto & Osaka.
so i've decided to get JR Pass for this purpose. However, I would like to know can JR pass be used on Tokyo Metro? or the buses/subways in Kyoto and Osaka?

Hi I'm going to Shanghai next March , and I remember last time I was there Xiang Yang market -where you can find all the most expensive international brands for a few euros/dollars- was still very active.

Somebody told me it has been closed down...does anybody know an alternative place to buy this kind of goods ?
