Hi,

Just got back. We were supposed to do a 3 week ski trip in Hokkaido. The weather did not cooperate and an early spring made skiing impossible. Luckily I had hotel bookings that could be canceled. Japan post has a wonderful service where they will ship your skis and boots (and anything else) from most resorts to your departing airport terminal. You can pick them up before you check in your flight.

I got a quick taste of Niseko (3 days) Spend a few night in Sapporo and ate crab. Took…

Hi
We (four older adults) are flying in to Beijing arriving at 7:15am on a Saturday. We have travelled a lot but not to China and have no Mandarin. We will have our Hotel Address written out in Mandarin and are aware that is best to join the line outside and use official taxis. We will have with us Yuan Renminbi for the taxi fare. The hotel is in Wanming Road, in the Xicheng District

If our arrival is on time and things are straightforward I would expect that we clear immigration and…

Hi,
I've got a trip to Japan coming up. We are travelling with a 6-month old baby for the first time to Tokyo, Kyoto, Nikko and Hakone. We're well familiar with the big cities, but i'd love some recommendations for things to do in Nikko and Hakone (not too strenuous, as we have the little guy along for the ride)!

Thanks for your thoughts :)

Was just wondering if anyone was has any suggestions for my current trip out in China. We were meant to be original going to Guilin and Yangshou for mostly hiking. When we planned it the weather was meant to be roughly fine. I am currently looking to see if there is anything else worth doing in the south of China as we are currently basing ourselves in Hong Kong. Any Help is appreciated!

Hello,

My girlfriend and I will be going on our first-time 3 week visit to Japan in May. We're giving ourselves about 5/6 days in both Tokyo and Kyoto (to not just experience those cities but also take day trips from them). In between those, we would like to travel from Kanazawa through the Alps and Hida valley. Here's what we know so far:

  • We have currently scheduled 7 full days for this (Fri 17-05 to Fri 24-05), but could make this 8 or even 9 days if desired (at the expense of daytripping…

Dear forum,

I've got two more photos I cannot correctly identify and sadly neglected to take proper notes in July when they were taken..

The first picture (links below) is of my girlfriend and daughter in front of a gate halfway up Mt. Misen on Miyajima. Does anyone know the name of the gate? Google won't tell me anything more than 'Gate to Mt. Misen'.

The second picture is a restaurant where we had some really great tuna sashimi in Nachikatsuura, between the many writings on the facade I…

Hi all!
I am planning to travel to NE Asia from July to mid-September, but I really do not know where to start. I would like to visit China, Taiwan, HK, South Korea and Japan. Specifically, my ideal itinerary at the moment would include Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto, Busan, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, HK, Taipei.

It would be my first time back-packing alone outside Europe, and I am quite lost with the planning. Not sure whether I should start from Taiwan, go up to beijing, then through SK…

We are landing on 4 June 18:45 in Sapporo New Chitose and departing on 11 June 13:40 from Memanbetsu. These tickets we have already bought with the assumption that we will rent a car and stay:

  • Night of 4 June near New Chitose Aiport (then go to Asahiyama to see the zoo)
  • Night of 5 June and 6 June at Asahidake Onsen (hiking Daisetsuzan)
  • Night of 7 June to 10 June at Shiretoko / Utoro (hiking Shiretoko)

We have booked hotels there but those are cancellable.

We had an assumption we can…
