YUNAN-SICHUAN BACKDOOR

hey guys, after i finish my trip in nepal, im planning to spend a month in china starting from the back door yunan-sichun. how much time (assuming il be taking on all the major attractions) will you say this journy will take? one week? two weeks tops?

anybody can also suggest good one month ideas for south-west china?

Are you talking about the alternative route between Chengdu and Zhongdian? Other than that, your post is too vague.

Hey, sorry about the vagueness, guess I have to strengthen my travel vocabulary.im talking about the route that goes through Kunming up to Chengdu through all the tibetian highlands.

This presumes that you will be flying from Kathmandu to Kunming, right? Another important piece of information you left out: WHEN is this trip? As in, when would you be arriving in China? Has material effect on route and suggestions that affect overall timing.

You can fill up a month if you want. depends on what you want to see exactly. Hard to say, too vague.

Experience the great cities, lots of scenery and experience the tibetian culture.

That is a good time to visit, late enough that the roads will be clear and not blocked by snow, early enough to be before rainy season. Based on an arrival in Kunming, I'd block this trip out as follows, focusing mostly on Yunnan/Sichuan.
5 days: Kunming arrival day and loop trip down to Jianshui and Yuanyang Rice Terraces and back to Kunming.
9 days: Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Shangri-La.
8 days: Overland Shangri-La to Chengdu, via Daocheng/Yading Reserve, other Tibetan towns tbd, and Kangding.
2 days: Chengdu area
6 days: Xi'an and Beijing. Depart Beijing.

This is fast-paced and would improve by another 4-5 days to add a couple of things (Huashan, Pingyao) and give more breathing room with the transport. Or, omit Beijing and end things in Chengdu or Xi'an, saving Beijing for a future trip. It's unclear whether your month time frame is due to personal schedule, budget limitations, or visa limitations.

There are lots of options for you in the western China. It depends on what you like or not.
