Travelling alone - organizing trip to EBC

Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet

My friend and I will arrive in Lhasa on August 18th. I’m planning to stay in Tibet about 10 days, but my friend can stay there only 5 days. What would you recommend for us to see? I really want to go to Shigatse, Sakya and EBC, but I heard this trip takes about 7 days. I don’t want to leave my friend by herself, so I was thinking of taking a two or three day trip to Nam-tso Lake with her, and then going by myself to EBC. Is it hard to organize a trip to EBC if you are travelling alone?

Its very easy to hook up with other people for the EBC tour. Its a very popular route. just look around at the noticeboards at the different guesthouses or ask around. people regularly ask around to fill up a spare seat. Often the tour is now done in 5 days. If you go to Nam Tso with your friend wait a couple of days as the altitude is 4800 m at Nam Tso, enough to make you feel very sick if not acclimatised.

Anaya is correct.

5 days for the EBC trip, plus Nam Tso can be done in a single day if you want. They have day trips there, or you can do a two day trip where you spend the night at the lake. You will also probably need a couple of days in Lhasa to get used to the altitude, plus make your travel arrangements. That would give you and your friend time to see Nam Tso, some of the sites in Lhasa, and allow you to go on the EBC trip.
