Thai Sauce in Japan?Country forums / North-East Asia / Japan
I am in Tokyo but I don't know where I can find some Thai sauce for a dish. Not fish sauce but like a marinade. In the states several companies including some imports can be found at major supermarkets on the east coast. Anyone know where in Tokyo? I live near Gotanda.
Have you tried the international supermarkets?
National Azabu in Hiro-o probably would have a better selection than Nissin

If I were looking for Thai Sauce I would probably go to Ameyoko
to a basement level market where they sell quite a lot of SE Asian/
Chinese ingredients.

IF you walk out the southern end of Ueno station (Iriya exit?) Tokyo
end anyway - and walk down towards Okachimachi along side the
railway line. The road forks take the branch closest to the railway tracks.
Not far after the fork - at a very rough gues within 20 m) there is a building
on the RHS with stairs going down. It has from memory the kanji for
shokuhin H•i and an arrow pointing down. They have some Thai
herbs there too - depends on the day what they have.

It's a good place to buy cuts of meat of parts of animals you never
wanted to know exist..... If you're keen to make duck gizzard and
congealed blood soup, I think no problem with getting ingredients here!

On the otherhand if you are vegetarian, enter from the southern end
and exit the same way without doing a full circle of the market. | 1
sometimes your local thai restaurant will also sell a limited number of products, such as sauces. otherwise they might know where you can buy it. | 2
Thanx..I found some instant curries in Kamata at a small shop. Not my first choice, but they were good. Green/Yellow. People ate em, liked em. | 3
Kaldi http://www.kaldi.co.jp/store/index.html also can have some good stuff.
Maybe that's where you went?

Near Takadanobaba station - cross over Waseda? dori (from the Waseda exit of JR)
in the direction of Mejiro, and inside the yamanote line (as opposed to the outside)
there are a few Burmese food places which might have suitable stuff.

| 4 | |

My local Seiyu supermarket has Thai sweet chili sauce (imported from Thailand) in the Chinese food section. | 6
