Ryokan in Hiroshima and Hattoji Village

Country forums / North-East Asia / Japan

My family and i will have 2 nights in Hiroshima on our tour from Kyushu back towards Tokyo. Does anyone have suggestions for family friendly ryokans in a handy area? Also, besides the obvious (Peace Memorial and Miyajima) any other sites we should seek out?

Also, we really want to stay at Hattoji international villa near Bizen in Okayam Prefecture. http://www.harenet.ne.jp/villa/ Our only fear is the frequency of the bus going from train station to the village and accessibility of food. Anyone have any experience with this particular villa?

thanks, maret

I stayed at the "Aster Plaza" International House or something like that. It was in central Hiroshima near the City Hall and the Peace Park.
Some kind of civic-run institution to promote world peace. Very well-run institution, new, sparkling clean, huge rooms. Try searching on the internet. Not at all like a ryokan: no atmosphere, but clean and safe and central.
I don't know anything about Hattoji. Have you tried looking at "Hyperdia" which is the online journey-planner for public transport? There is an English version.
Good luck.

I haven't stayed at Hattoji (only been to Shiraishi) but have heard good things about it. Best pick up groceries before you go - the villas usually have cupboard staples like cooking oil, tea, coffee etc. You can take a taxi from the station if you happen to miss the bus - the official website has some info on this I think.
