| jackbhoy00:42 UTC15 Jun 2007 | We stayed in Sunnide on shores of Lake Kawaguchi a few weeks ago.
We took a Japanese style room, which was really nice and had an amazing view of the Mt. Fuji. One of the highlights of the trip was waking at 5am to see our window filled with Fuji set against a crystal clear sky. The staff are also really friendly and they provide free pick up from train/bus station (15 mins away).
We came from Kyoto which took some time and effort but its only 1.5 hours(ish) by bus from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo you can also get connecting trains but takes bit longer.
It wasn't climbing season when we were there but it seems to be used as a base for climbers and the you can get a bus from town to 5th station.

| gaijinjoe07:06 UTC15 Jun 2007 | Fuji is cool do once but remember it is really a two day trek if you take public transportation. There just is no way to get there by bus climb it and come back down in time for the bus on the same day.
Almost everyone goes for the sunrise so making it a two day is not a big deal.
I wrote a pretty comprehensive webpage on climbing it. It's got the what to bring, hows bus time table etc. Timetable is old but you'll get the idea of a schedule.
