Mongolian Visa for Canadians at border?Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia
I understand that Mongolia requires Canadians to get a visa prior to entering the country. However, I'm wondering if any Canadians have had first hand experience in getting a visa at the border. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Arranging a visa prior to entering means you can't get one at arrival. Mongolia doesn't issue visas on arrival, though some nationalities can enter the country without a visa (Canadians are not one of them). Edited by: rmdavis82 | 1
Three years ago, Canadian tourists flying into UB’s international airport could obtain a single entry visa upon arrival. You can send an email to embassy or honorary consulates in Canada to get up-to-date information whether this is still possible. Canadians definitely can NOT obtain a Mongolian visa at any land border crossings. | 2
I am pretty sure that visas cannot be issued at arrival at any land borders. OTOH there is a Mongolian consulate in Erlian which is the Chinese border town with Mongolia and there are Mongolian consulates in Irkutsk and Ulan Ude which are near the train/road border crossing from Russia to Mongolia. What border were you planning on crossing? Ruth | 3

Take the overnight bus from Beijing to Erlian, get your visa in Erlian, cross the border by jeep and catch the overnight train from the Mongolian side. This post from summer 2007 by manulike with update from Nov 2008 has useful information: Erlian Fact Sheet. Ruth | 5
