Mongolia 6/7 days (early June)

Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia

Hi All,

I have just had look trough LP Mongolia. All the suggested itineraries requires 3 weeks or thereabouts.
I will stopping at UB for 6/7 days before heading to Beijing (Trans Mongolian)- early June.

What do you guys recommend for 6-7 days?

Is it possible to do it independently...?

I will send an email to 2/3 hostels asking for tours (please feel free to recommend places or tour operators)...but i was interested in hearing your opinions too.

Thank you in advance!

Hi!
you can make 7 days tour to gobi or central mongolia-white lake. If you do gobi tour you cannot make independently. White lake is also not so easy, bus network in Mongolia is not developed. check tours at www.mongol-tour.blogspot.com

For 6-7 days you can possibly travel to the Gobi desert, and Central or Eastern Mongolia, joining a group would be much easier and cheaper than traveling independently.

As stated above you could do a trip to the Gobi if you can afford to fly and thus save time.
I would do a 4 day tour of the Gobi and then a 2 day trip to Kharkhorin. UB itself is not that interesting. Try looking at www.gobitours.com.

Thats enough time to check Khovsgol, which I would recommend.

Although written a couple of years ago, you might want to look at this thread: 7 days in Mongolia.

I'd recommend going to a ger-camp somewhere south of UB; I did that myself last summer on a stopover from the Transmongolian Railway. We had a total of 2 days in UB and then we spent 5 days in a camp called Arburd Sands (check out www.nomadicjourneys.com) about 4 hours (driving) from UB. Great place, great people and we loved the variety of the landscapes - steppes, hills, and even a little piece of desert. From there you can organize tours in the area, the family owning the place is very helpful. We loved it!
