Hi Dani, Good luck :) | 2 | |
You could try looking at this company - http://www.tours-mongolia.com/ They are quite new but I have heard good things about them, they have a wide variety of tours, especially to the Gobi, and they have a guesthouse right in the centre of UB. | 3
Hello! | 4 | |
Hi! | 5 | |
Great to see fellow travellers visiting Mongolia in July as well! I'll be there slightly before Naadam starts, and when the festival is over, I hope to join a 2-3 weeks tour around the country.. Basically from mid-July till early August. If the timeframe fits anybody's else, let's keep in touch! :) | 6
Hey! I'm heading to Mongolia on July 11th until August 8th. Is Nadam really on the 10th this year? My wife is Mongolia and assumed Nadam would be starting on the 11th (the day we get there). We tried to book a flight a few days earlier but there wasn't anything available at a reasonable price. Apparently another option is to attend a countryside Nadam that usually starts a few days later, so we are looking into that. We hope to do a tour as well, but haven't sorted out plans yet exactly. Main reason for the trip is for my wife to introduce our half-Mongolian daughter to her Grandmother. We are hoping to leave our daughter with her grandmother and do a tour together, but depending on how our daughter behaves may wife may or may not join me. Rather that do a tour alone, we were hoping to join up with a small group to head out into the countryside. Most likely destination is Lake Khvosgol with a visit to the reindeer people and some horseback riding. If anyone wants to try to arrange a tour together in an effort to minimize costs let me know. I know you can rent a car, driver, camping gear, etc. for a flat rate, so make sense to bring a few people. My wife is also looking into bringing some of her Mongolian friends who haven't visited Khvosgol yet themselves, so should make for interesting travel having some native Mongolians on-board! If you think you might want to form a tour group, let me know. uRyan | 7
Whatever tour you do, I would NOT recommend taking a tour with Black Ibex/Discover Mongolia - we are well travelled and have never had to complain before but to say we werre ripped off by this company is a huge understatement. We recently paid £500 thinking it would be worth it as it would be experience of a lifetime etc but it really wasn't, mainly due to the quality of the guide and the fact that most of the activities we had been promised did not materialise - we were expecting to be travelling about spotting wildlife and viewing the countryside etc - in realty we drove for 5 minutes in the national park, and then as soon as we saw a tiny glimpse in the far distance of the takhi horse we were marched straight back to the ger and told to rest for the remainder of the day. One night in a ger and then we had to go back to UB because the heating in the vehicle wasn't working and it was -30 outside. They wouldn't entertain our complaints, called us liars and wouldn't hear of a partial refund. | 8
Hey.... There will be a group of 4 of us arriving in UB around the 10th as well. We are currently undecided whether we prefer to experience Nadaam in UB or a smaller surrounding village (as long as we get to see Nadaam). Regardless, we are looking to be a group of around 6 and see the gobi, the old capital & a bit of the north (if possible). Let me know if this fits your plans. | 9
