Jeju Island

Country forums / North-East Asia / South Korea

Hi,
I am planning to spend 2 days in Jeju Island in October.
My question is: is it possible to visit the island in 2 days? I mean: the "must-see's"...
Is there any organized tours on the island? Is it possible to rent a bike?
I would appreciate any advice.

If you can spare it, I'd suggest adding a day or 2 so you can have 3 or 4 days there as Jeju has a lot of great places to check out.
Although there are more hotels and entertainment options in Jeju City, I personally prefer Seogwipo (on the south coast) as it has a much more laidback vibe and is more beautiful.
There are a few places downtown Jeju City to rent bicycles, although I'm not sure of the rates.
If you like outdoor stuff, I'd recommend heading to Seongsan on the east coast and taking the short (about 15 minutes) ferry to Udo Island. As soon as you get off the ferry, there's a little place where you can rent bicycles or scooters (probably need a Korean/international license) and spend a few hours checking out the island.
You could also climb Hallasan, the tallest mountain in South Korea. There are several different trails going up it. I took the one starting from the east side of the mountain, and I think it took about 6 or 7 hours up and down. The weather wasn't great when I did it, but if you have good weather, you'd probably get amazing views.
There are also some great section to hike on the Jeju Olle trails.
For cheap flights there, check Jeju Air or Air Busan.

I agree you would want to get over to Seogwipo which is where the most interesting area is. 2 days is not long to see a lot unless you just did a drive around one way one day and the other way the other day. We hired a car. If you ride motorbikes or scooters they are an option. There is a hill you have to go over. Round the coast is lovely. Have a look here for some ideas - [http://www.fascinating-travel-destinations.com/jeju-island.html] You really need to pick out things of interest and just do those in such a short time.

Thanks a lot to you both! I will try to add an extra day to Jeju especially after you told me about this Udo island....
Many thanks!!!!

Well, I have not evaluated my budget yet because I have not decided how many days I want to stay there and I have not booked any hotel yet. What I know is that there are plenty of hotels various range of prices for all budgets. So I cannot help you at this stage of my planning.

Some friends and I hit up Jeju over a day and a half in 2009. We didn't have any trouble getting in a lot of the main sites. We hit Love Land on the evening we got in; rented a taxi for the day the next day (cost about 80,000 won) and hit up the lava tubes; sunrise peak; the other crater; Mini Mini Land; and the hedge maze.

That still got us back in time for a relaxed evening at the carnival, and we didn't actually leave the following day until 2pm. Could have packed a bit more into the morning had we not been hungover.

Seogwipo is definitely more centered around nature, and overall I prefer Seogwipo. There's also a really great hostel that just opened up down here called Backpacker's Home only 22,000 KRW and brand new, so everything is really clean.
