issue to get my visa to MongoliaCountry forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia
Hello all, I am a French woman. I am going to Mongolia from July, 6th as part of a year-trip starting next Thursday. If I get my visa now (although it's too late now) it would be expired by the time I arrive in Mongolia. I will be staying in Central and South America, where there is no Mongolian Ambassy (I am not going to Brazil). I have tried to reach the Mongolian Ambassy both through emails and phone calls but never got any reply. Does anybody can tell me if there is a way I could get this Mongolian visa? Thank you in advance for your help
As you'll know, there aren't direct flights from Central or South America to Mongolia. How are you going to reach Mongolia? I mean What route are you going to follow? Perhaps, you can get the visa in a country along that route. | 1
#2's advice is your best bet. This means you will need to get a China visa as well, and with standard single-entry Chinese visas, you need to get them no more than 90 days before entering China. If you will be routing through Hong Kong, there's your option for that. The other common route to Mongolia would be flight from Seoul, South Korea (not cheap). I do not know the particulars of getting a visa at the Mongolian Embassy there, but it should be doable in similar time frames to Beijing. Note that trains into Mongolia get incredibly booked up during that period, so you need to make arrangements as far in advance as possible. I don't think you can wait until you arrive in Beijing to book the international train to Ulan Bator, as it will be sold out. There are some local ways to hopscotch on local Chinese transportation methods to the border, manually enter Mongolia yourself at Zamyn Uud, and then onward to UB from there, but expect heavy travel demand on all routes and methods. If you can afford to fly into UB, I would exercise that option. | 2
Hi Camille There are Mongolian Honorary Consuls in central and south America. Mexico Mongolian Honorary Consul General Chile Mongolia Honorary Consul The advice above is also correct Happy New year - Shine Jil, (Шинэ жилийн мэнд хүргье!) Dan | 3
How are you planning to enter Mongolia? If you are flying, where are you flying from? If you are traveling overland you can get one in Beijing or at the Chinese border in Erlian or in Russia in Moscow, Irkutsk or Ulan Ude which are all on the train route to Mongolia. Ruth | 4
Hi all, I am indeed flying through Beijing but since my stopover is only a few hours, I wouldn't need a visa. I just wanted to avoid to get a Chinese visa to get my Mongolian visa but if I have no other option I will do that. My flight to Ulaanbaatar is already booked, I can modify it but can't cancel so unfortunately, train is not an option... I will also have a look at this honorary consul in Chile, that would be the best solution! Thanks all for your help | 5
Washington DC might be a possibility, but I'd only invoke it if your journey between Central America and Asia will be taking you to the USA for at least a week or so, not flying in the US domestically during that time, and you can send from inside the USA. I'd tend to use an agent, rush fees, and express courier services to expedite things, even at additional cost. If not going through and staying in the US for awhile and/or if you want to ship from South or Central America, then I'd recommend sending it back to an agent in your home country by intl FedEx or DHL and have them rush process and send back while you stay put in a specific area. It's cheaper to hole up for a while in S. America than it is the USA. It sounds like if you are not able to get satisfaction from one of the honorary consuls in South America or Mexico, then your only other options are the above strategy, or to route through South Korea or Japan (or Hong Kong) for a few days and get a visa in one of those locations in-person. Whichever way you look at it, you're going to be spending money either for the passport to travel somewhere, or for changes in whatever airplane routing you already have, to do it in person. | 6
