Hotel in Lhasa

Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Lhasa? It does not have to be super cheap and should be located on a beautiful street with views etc.
Thanks,
Brenda

We are going to Tibet next month and my husband’s co-worker recommended the Yak Hotel in Lhasa. He stayed there 2 or so years ago. Apparently it’s been renovated as he said to ask for a room in the “new wing”. He aslo said the restaurant on site is good, and you can meet other travellers, get first-hand travel info. I have also seen this hotel recommended on other TT posts. This is where we plan on booking.

Of the old regulars I like the Yak's - the cheaper rooms, but they also have very flash and pricey accommodation with, I imagine, sit down toilets [wow]; the restaurant, cunningly located on the fifth floor (!) has Y25 all-you-can-eat breakfasts for those guests who do not expire on the way up.

They do luggage storage, have close access to the main in-town attractions..but you are best to choose a few of any suggested list, and check them out upon arrival...I see you like views - the laundry rooftop and the restaurant rooftop of the Yak have a pano vista of the Potala and surrounding mountains.

I am not sure of what your budget is, but the Namchen House is a new guesthouse located behind Jokhang along the Barkhor. It is located in an excellent place with great roof-top views.

"...and should be located on a beautiful street with views"
Go up to the roof of your hotel and look to the west. Then shed a tear for Tibet.
