Hong Kong from the airport

Country forums / North-East Asia / China

For four people travelling together, which is the easiest and most economical way to travel into kowloon from the airport? Still the airport bus? Or will a taxi between us be as cheap?

Thanks.

Taxi

1

Take this Airport Express. It is quick and easy. It goes to Central, and you can take a shuttle or taxi to your hotel.

2

Ah. Now I followed another link from yours. For the four of us, the airport express would be $360 - plus shuttle. A taxi is $320 to the door. So the latter sounds the better option. or have I missed something?

3

for 4 people dividing costs, take the taxi. the taxi will drop you at the door.

4

The bus is HK$33 per person so it is still much cheaper. It also takes you straight down Nathan Rd, stopping outside all of the main places, taking around an hour. From the top deck you also get a great view.

5

Where are you headed? Buses work great if your destination is on the route. (I personally am a huge airport express fan - but as the number of people in the party increases, it's convienence decreases).

6

4 people with big suitcases will not fit into one taxi. I believe that you pay extra for anything that doesn't fit in the passenger compartment. I love the express train because it is quick and comfortable. I have never taken the bus but it sounds great as long as the weather and traffic are good. I'm the kind of traveler that's willing to pay extra for comfort and convenience.

7

The Stanford hillview Hotel, Astroboy.

8

Sarah, we have always taken the A21 bus. It's really frequent. It's a great view! And there is lots of room for luggage. The drivers are nice and helpful.
If you take a taxi, you have to also pay for each piece of luggage too.

What hotel have you ended up at?

9

If you have a lot of luggage, the Stanford Hillview (on Observatory Road) is a little bit of a walk (maybe 2 blocks?)from any of the bus stops on A21. Taxis will get you door to door. The airport express will also get you right to the door, but that's a transfer (but it is the fasest method - faster than a taxi).

If you don't have bulky luggage, the bus is the best method (although you'll have to negotiate TST with suitcase or heavy bags).

If you do, taxis will get you right to the door.

Not quite accurate. It's $10 per piece of luggage in the trunk.

11

Very easy to catch the bus. Get off stop 18, Chatham Rd South, and walk up Observatory Road to hotel. 5 minutes walk.

12

Ahhh, less than 1 week and I'm back in Hong Kong.

I'm going to eat some Pret sandwiches, look at cameras, buy some Canto porn mags, buy some Cantopop, drink some lime flavour diet coke, buy a couple of Ted Baker shirts, go to Marks and Spencer, have a few drinks in Lan Kwai Fong and do some grocery shopping. Paradise :) :) :)

13

Canto porn mags are such a tease.

Um, so I've heard.

14

I haven't said this for a while, but Faye Wong is totally hot. Even at 37 with 2 kids.

15

Telephoto - are you josh69?

16

Josh and I listen to Cantopop together.

17

Ah yes. He's much more of a Joey Wong fan too.

18

ah, from #8, Harry Stayed at the Standford Hillview. very nice hotel, centrally located, every possible thing within walking distance.

They have a bus that will bring you from the airport, and there is also a bus from the airport that drops off at quite a few places, but even that bus will not drop you off at the door because the hotel front entrance is on a steep hill.

The bars around Knutsford terrace are expensive, but there are four 7-11's within an easy walk of the hotel.

19

Thanks Harry. That's good to know.

20

I recommend the bus, as you need not argue over who gets to sit in front espcially if you are four rather large (or should I say "BMI challenged") women.

From the upper deck, you treat yourself to a free bus tour from the airport to Kowloon. From the upper deck there is a large mirror that lets keep an eye on your luggage.

Good luck.

BMI = Body Mass Index.

21

penfold - really!

I am very petite I'd have you know, and my two daughters likewise. My husband's getting a bit of a belly though...

22

#16 as soon as I read post #13 I also thought 'that has to be Josh69...such class :)'

23

#22, alright, daddy can sit upfront and the three petites can sit behind, hope you girls are size 10 and below.

If I remember correctly, taxis in HK are not as large as taxis in Australia and US. We use Ford Falcons (same size as old Ford Granada Taxis iof the 1980s) and Commodores (same size as the Chevrolet Lumina) as it is large enough for Aussies.

Good luck.

24

Sarah, if you have Google Earth (the free version), the Stanford Hillview is at: 22°18'05.62"N 114°10'27.76"E

as you c an see everything is handy.

25

Harry - thankyou!

26

Probably not at the Stanford. My experience is that they stop at the bottom of the hill and you walk the last 50m up it.

27

If you're catching the bus have the right change....<BR>They don't do change.

28

Tokyo_Girl - or have the Octopus Card (which you should have anyways)

29

But on the A21 bus, watch out for the low AC units on the top deck. I've hit my head more than once.
Yeah, sit up front on the top deck, two and two. GREAT view.

Have an excellent time!

30

holy cow, is this thread still going on?

You could have walked from the airport by now...
