I'm travelling to Beijing and Hong Kong in early April for 12 days
I am after advice/information on the following:

1. What will the weather be like at this time of year in both of these cities
2. How difficult is it to get around Beijing as a westerner
3. Are many signs in english
4. How difficult is it to communicate
5 Suggestions for places to go go

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

1) Look on Weather Underground for historical weather data for Beijing and Hong Kong at that time of year.
2) and 4) Not very difficult, assuming you have zilch knowledge of Chinese. Bring a guidebook and a Mandarin phrasebook (Rough Guide's Mandarin is good) and lots of patience. The metro is the easiest of all the intra-city transport methods to use as it's clearly signposted in both English and Chinese characters.
3) Many enough for a country which doesn't use English as a primary language.
5) What are your sightseeing preferences and interests?
Answers to anything but 1) are mostly for Beijing, since I haven't been to Hong Kong at all.
Cheers!

1) in early April, Beijing, it can be hot / cold. Pay attention to the wealther report before you go. HK, often hot and high humidity.
2) It is not difficult to get around Beijing as a westerner, take it easy.
3) Not often, but it can be seen as the most important signs or instructions.
4) Try to communicate with the younger.
5) It depends on what you want to see. In Beijing, there is a lot of historial place to see such as great wall and forbidden city.
