HK Camera extras

Country forums / North-East Asia / China

Hi

Having followed previous advice I have bought myself a new camera in the UK before leaving. However I could do with a case and spare battery so is there a better area to go to in Hong Kong to get these or is it better to try duty free before leaving? I see on Ebay there are loads of these to be had cheap from Hong Kong but is that the case when you get there?!!
Thx for all and any replies!

The cases and extra batteries are often given as free gifts when buying a new camera in Hong Kong. If you want to buy them separately I'm not sure if the price will be much different from the UK.

Try around Golden Computer Center in Sham Sui Po, it's a good area to get them

Quite a few good camera shops cluster around Wellington Street area in Central District, Hong Kong. Try there first.

Stanley Street in Central is very good for Camera Equpiment if you are talking higher end/professional gear, but for point and shoot cameras head out Kowloon way for the best deals. Sham Shui Po wouldn't be a bad place to start as mentioned above.

Why not email the ebay companies based in HongKong and see about picking up what you want there? I wouldn't count on store prices being less than or equal to ebay prices.

I think it's worthwhile to go there even if you don't buy - a major scene, computer/related-wise. Some pretty good neighborhood restaurants around there, too.
