Female First Time Traveller In North East Asia

Country forums / North-East Asia

I'm 19 and going travelling on my own in a few months time. I would really like to travel to China, Japan and Hong Kong but I have been told that it may not be a very good idea as I am female, travelling on my own and not particularly experienced due to being first time traveller. I would be grateful for anyone's advice or maybe the experiences of someone who has been in a similar position to me.

Thanks

I came here at age 22 and have traveled all over Asia with no problems. 22 years later, I am still here and still traveling all over with no problems. Keep your wits about you, exercise common sense as you would in your home country and don't talk to strangers.

Hi,

Being female is absolutely no problem in those countries. On the other hand, the language barrier will, especially if you're a first-time traveler. Apart from tourist locations, NO ONE speaks english in China and Japan...
For a first-time traveler, I'd recommend Sri Lanka or Indonesia instead...

best greetings,

Jan
