Hello, just a quicky : | ||
Well I was there 3 weeks ago, the first part of it is. There's yak carts pulling people back and forth. But beyond that, you'll need a permit (even though there's no stand to check) cause there are red painted signs that threaten visitors who go too far with fines. | 1
We were there in mid-July. Main road closed and had to use alternative route. Both ways. A real challenge. Road after junction and before EBC under construction - but let vehicles through every now and again. Not many places one sees a front-end loader being loaded by hand. We stayed at the Guest House. Ablution facilities consist of two urns and enamel basis. Juding by the state of our internals the next day, none of the kitchen staff went near them. Thought the appearance of the tents and monestary accommodation looked appalling. Our Tibetan room was cosy and the beds comfortable. Awful toilets - though not the worst (see Namsto for those). Saw the mountain for 20 minutes. Used the pony carts - beat walking. EBC itself has all the visual charm of a disused construction site. | 2
