Does the hard sleeper Beijing-Lhasa train have doors?

Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet

Was just wondering if the hard sleepers on the Beijing-Lhasa are in compartments and if they have doors?

They do not have doors, but are in compartments of 6 bunks, which may or not have a panel at the end of the bunk partially sealing you off from the aisle. If you don't like smoking, try and get one in the middle of the carriage as people smoke in between the carriages. This is allowed; smoking in the carriage is theoretically forbidden and I can often get them to stop, although it sometimes causes a fuss. They know they shouldn't.

Technically smoking is prohibited in all parts of the trains (including the areas between carriagaes) from Golmud Station to Lhasa Station, but Jenny is right, sometimes it causes a fuss to stop them, quite a hassle. One time I threatened to call the operator (who was also SMOKING!) to come, so the smokers backed off.

Agree...no doors.

this would be because of the oxygen feeded to the carriages. Fire will still burn slower with the reported 24 % O2 than at sea level , but nasal cannulas left on seats can "load" the fabric with pure oxygen , and then you have a dangerous situation with cigarettes.
