6 month entry visa for UK national to China

Hi guys,
Have just filled out my visa form, and plan on going to the chinese embassy tomorrow to apply for a visa. However, i have just been checking on the net and it seems that the 6 month multi-entry visas are for business people only? Is there any way to get around this or have i been mis-informed. In any case i cannot go for the double entry at the moment as my exit dates will be in 4 1/2 months time.

Here's my story: I had read that tourist visas were only valid for 90 days. Since I plan to visit China both in May and August, I filled out the application for a single entry visa. When I got to the consular office, I explained that I was planning two trips more than three months apart, and my understanding was that I would need to obtain two separate visas. The worker behind the counter smilingly told me she could give me a six-month double entry visa. No special forms. No supporting documents. I don't know if the individual workers, or offices (I visited the embassy in Ottawa, Canada), have some leeway, but I'd say it would be worthwhile to tell the people at the consulate your plans.

the definition of business people is pretty loose, as to be non-existent.

however, some Chinese consulates/embassies will only give business visas to people who already have Chinese visas in their passport - so it may depend on your local consulates' guidelines.

the way around it is to get your visa in Hong Kong. Or get your second visa before re-entering China (Hong Kong, Bangkok, Hanoi, KL, Singapore, etc.) are all places you can get another Chinese visa.

I decided to go for the plain double entry visa, but get it closer to the time that i go, in order that i don't have to cut down my time exploring China :) Getting it through sta, who phoned the visa company - their official line was that i would have had to visit the country before for the 3 month multi entry visa or be there 'on business' for a 6 month. Didn't fancy running the risk of not getting the right visa on my first attempt at getting a visa for another country.
