We are a couple from Hungary, going around the World by recumbent bicycles as our honeymoon. (our FB site: http://facebook.com/cyclingthe360</a> - mostly English; website: http://360fokbringa.hu</a> - Hungarian and English, but the Hungarian is much more up-to-date)

We are currently in India, but planning to go further, this is why we started to write this post.

As we know, there is a bunch of permits needed to cycle to Tibet from Kathmandu, and also a guide with a jeep. So it's not…

Hi

I am trying to help an older guy in finding a possibility of finishing a trekking from the southern part of Himalays into Tibet. We are looking for any trekking route which could be used to legally trek into Tibet from India or Nepal.
I now about Friendship Highway Passing, but we are looking for a less obvious solution. I thought about Mustang, maybe it would be possible to cross the border there, but I am not sure. Maybe Ngari (from India?).

Can You help with any other idea?

best regards…

Hi was just in Lhasa till March 20th. Used Mix hostel in chengdu. Karen is a sweetheart. Didn't like the first guide. Karen got us a different one named Tanzing, he was excellent. I wouldrecommend Mix they are the cheapest I found and again Karen is very helpful. Good hostel as well. She also gotme train ticket with no markup at last minute. If you want to know more email me

I am going with 2 friends to Tibet next April.
As we will sleep near Everest Base Camp at a very simple place we are being advised to buy a sleeping bag up to -20. We intend to buy it at Kathmandu but I was there 2 years ago and saw a lot of fake things beeing sold what could be dangerous in this case. Someone knows a reliable place to buy this kind of thing in Kath?

Hi there,

Has someone of you flown into Lhasa (from outside of China) recently on a tourist visa without being on a tour? Any problems with the immigration? German passport btw...

Cheers, Tobi

Dear Reader,
I´m planning to travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa during 20th to end of March 2012 and I´ve listened around that is a little bit difficult this period to get in Tibet. Someone can give me information about? What about permits? Is easy to go by bus? or better to fly?
Thanks a lot

Hello! I'm an independent traveler hoping to start in Kathmandu, fly to Shanghai then get a train to Lhasa (Tibet), before entering Nepal again. I'm hoping to leave between mid-March and early April - would this be possible and if so, what documents would I need to get? Thanks in advance!

Hi All,

Looking at flights from Melbourne, Aust to Lhasa and so far the options as as follows

Option 1 with China Southern = Melbourne - Guangzhou - Chongqing - Lhasa (17hrs flight and 27 hours return - 12 hours in Guangzhou)

Option 2 with Air China = Melbourne - Shanghai - Beijing - Chengdu - Lhasa (30 hours approx)

Travel will be in Late June or Early July. Anyone have any other quicker options. Is it better to break the fight up into sections with different airlines.

Any ideas

Thanks
Ric…
