We would like to stop in Xian prior to going to Lhasa. Although the train does not originate in Xian it does stop there. We were told it would be "difficult" to get Xian to Lhasa train tickets at the end of October but some agencies say it can be done. Has anyone done that?
What price are people paying to get the Tibet permit? We have been quoted upwards of 850RMB from the Beijing branch of the Tibet Toursim Bureau. Seems ridiculously high.
I want to take a tour of N. Korea in October and have to buy expensive plane tickets to Beijing to do this. If the tour gets canceled (which is very likely) I would like to take the train to Lhasa for a couple days. My question is, can I arrange a permit to Tibet here in the USA before leaving, or can I get a permit in Beijing on short notice?
Thanks

I just arrived in Lhasa and really looking forward to treking Ganden-Samye. I don't have stove or tent--only sleeping bag. I realize that could be a setback. Willing to compromise. Anyway, if anybody's interested, best way is to call me at 13925254614. Thanks.
Hi,
Can I get a permit easily from Zhongdian? If so, where should I go?
I'm planning to fly to Beijing in September, before going to Zhongdian, then to Lhasa. Is flying a good way of getting a permit? Or do I still have to book on a tour?
Thanks!
Hi,
We're leaving for Tibet on the weekend and I just found out that acetazolamide contains sulfur, which I am allergic to. I was planning to take it daily as a preventative. I will try to get dexamethasone from my Dr tomorrow but it is not suggested that that one be used as a preventative. The question is: If a am careful and do all the right stuff, including stopping in Xining to adjust for 4 days then train to Lhasa, will I most likely be OK? Do most travelers to Tibet use a drug for a…
HI
am i right in thinking that to enter Tibet from Kathmandu I just need a chinese visa, then hook up with a trekking company that will provide me with a permit then travel with them (overland in my case) and thats it?
Also if I enter tibet form Beijing via train will I just need to get the Permit in Beijing? and then organise a tour form Lhasa to KTM ,
Many thanks!
We are planning our trip to Asia next year and we are wondering if it is possible to travel from Nepal into Tibet and then preferable fly out of Tibet into China. Can anyone suggest a good route from India - Nepal - Tibet - China?
Thank you
Has anyone had a problem using "option 3" from Sims once they're in Lhasa? Has anyone been forced to leave Tibet or China? I imagine this hasn't happened recently, but if you have had any bad experience, please let me know. Thanks.
Just got the email from the travel agency in Beijing and they told me that:

Quote

And it is regulated that the travel agency which apply Tibet permit for you have to be the agency which arrange your tours in Tibet.

Is this accurate information?
