I'm going to enter Nepal by Friendship highway. Is it possible to change my remaining Yuans for Rupies in Nepal? Is there any regulation how much cash (Yuan) I can carry with me when I'll cross border?

Hi,

I'll arrive to Beijing on the 5th of Aug and may stay there a couple of days before heading the road to Tibet.
I would stay in Lhasa for 3 days before overlanding to Kathmandu. My itinerary would be Lhasa-Gyantse-Shigatse-Tingri-Rongbuk-EBC-Kodari-Kathmandu.
Since I travel alone, would highly appreciate if anyone or group will do the same that I can join.

We want to go from Chengdu to Lhasa in early september. I've heard that Chengdu is the easiest gate to Tibet, is it true?
We want to go preferently by train, but if it's not possible we could also go by plane. Does anybody know any place where we can find train or plane tickets and the permit without booking a tour? (or at least, booking a tour which isn't incredibly expensive!!) I've heard about Sim's Cozy Guesthouse, any experience with them?

If you are planning on travelling overland between Golmud & lhasa be warned about the strict speed restrictions currently in force from Tanggula Shan through to Lhasa whereby all vehicles have to stop at police checkpoints and are given a minimum time to reach the next checkpoint - sometimes requiring an average speed of as little as 30 or 40 kph. I suspect this is to protect the badly frost-damaged highway but all that happens is that the buses & trucks travel as fast as usual & then park up…

so you can find a tibetan antilope bus to yecheng for ali.in yecheng,sleep in the hotel near the bus station.take the blue bus no 2 and ask for aba.buses goes on monday and friday,thought mine leaves on tuesday.it starts at midnight.cost for local is 450y.for tourist 600y for a sleeping place or 450 in the corridor.it take theoricly 30h but i never met anyone who needs less than37h.myself i need 43h.thers s no road between rutok and lhasa.well the track…

We are 3 spanish independient travellers for the first time in Tibet... I was reading in this forum and everybody tells that is very difficult, almost imposible, going from Kathmandu to Lhasa and after to the rest of China (Xiam is our option).. So, If I take a chinese visa from the China embassy in Spain when I arrive to the China or Tibet border, this visa will be cancelled??
