We are two travellers who have found what looks like a great deal - flexible itinerary overland to Lhasa (and possibly further south towards EBC) from Shangrila. 1000 yuan a day for the car, and no extras for 'guides', 'permits'... no hassle, no wait. The car seats up to 7 people so CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP for this form of transport. We would be interested in approx 10 day trip.
The travel agency is not interested in selling us extra permits that don't get checked (they told us they are only needed for…
We are 2 Spanish guys (male + female) looking for partners to share a 4x4 and costs for a Shigatse, Gyantse & EBC trip. We arrive in Lhasa on September 4th and would like to head to EBC on September 6 or 7 if possible. We are quite flexible regarding days, places to see and stay, etc. Our idea is to be back in Lhasa on September 12 or 13 (to the latest).
If you are interested, please write me via private message or e-mail at fjubany[add]gmail.com
See you soon!
Hi Everyone,
When i looked for info on tibet none of it was really what i needed, so hopefully this will help those looking for the info i was.
In Xian we purchased our supposed TTB permit and 2 Day Lhasa tour for aus$220. THIS WAS UNNECESSARY!.
Fact is TTB and PSB issue these free (look at the bottom ' no commision fee') to guides only.
We were never asked for it ever.
In Shigatse where we followed the LP bible to try and get our own permits they informed us of this information, i checked again…
We are 2 British Sisters (21 and 24) and we have booked a 6 day tour to EBC from Lhasa and returning to Lhasa leaving on MONDAY 27th AUGUST, including all the usual places enroute. We have an exact iteniary but it can be altered before 8pm tomorrow (SUNDAY 26th) to some extent.
The price is 6300 RMB for the car, driver permits and compulsory guide which seems like a good deal at the moment.
Have more info and a copy of the contract if anyone is interested.

Does anyone know how to get around the 20kg/1 bag limit placed on air travelers to Tibet from Beijing? I have 2 bags, one with apx. 13-15 kg of trekking gear another with 20kg of clothes, cold weather gear, misc. What is the over weight charge?
Thanks,
Marc
Hi there,
I'm heading back to Tibet this Oct, for Mt Kailash, intending to do the Kailash Kora. I'm not exactly a very physically fit person, so was wondering if anyone would share his/her experience in doing the kora. Is it very tough?? How is the trek like? The last time when I tried trekking from Rongphu to EBC, I was totally exhausted. The thin air certainly worn one out. So, for Kailash kora, the altitude is even much higher. Anyone with any tips/suggestion on how to conquer the kora?

LP's tip for travelling from Lhasa to Kathmandu: [During July and August you may find roads temporarily washed out along the Friendship Highway to Nepal]. So I schedule my travel there in the 2nd week of Sep . Is it a good time for a travel by jeep? Appreciate your response!!!
WHat is the current situation with changing money and/or getting advance from visa card. It seems it can only be done in Lhasa, but maybe things have changed already?
Second question: I would try to do a much as possible with public transport, anyone knows how difficult/impossible this is? At least buses to Shigatze, Gyantse, also all areas around Lhasa and Samye. I would only do one jeep tour to Lake Namtso. All tips and advise welcome on monique.jansen@chello.be
Hi,
My husband and I are in Chengdu right now and have inquired at several TT/LP-recommended guesthouses/hostels for TTB permits and tickets from Chengdu-Lhasa. We are very puzzled by the conflicting info we're discovering and wonder if any of you can help.
We visited Sam's Guesthouse (not to be confused with Sim's) and The Loft tonight. Sam's is saying they can get the permit in one day no problem, with no word about how long it's good for in Tibet. Price quoted for permit + one-way ticket…
