Hi & thanks to all the committed folk who place info on this site - makes planning so much easier. We are going to Tibet in June 08 and the trip will include EBC and Mt Kailash - we intend to do a kora there. I intend to buy down sleeping bags, but what temp. should I allow for? EBC is easy to work out (courtesy of weather underground), but I'm having trouble finding temperatures for Kailash in June.
Secondly, I will buy appropriate gear in Lhasa - down sleeping bag, fleece, down jacket…

Hi!

I travel alone (french canadian female, 28) and I'm looking for some people who would like to share a Jeep to do the following trip:

Day 01 Lhasa-Drigung
Day 02 Drigung - Tidrum
Day 03 Tidrum - Reting
Day 04 Reting - Lake Namtso
Day 05 Lake Namtso - Yangpachen - Lhasa

The price is 620$ for the Jeep and we could be up to 4 people. I planned to do this with an agency which has been strongly recommended by some friends. I can leave Lhasa anytime between September 15th and 19th.

Hi,

I bought a train ticket from Xining to Lhasa leaving tonight at 10:16p.m. but I got sick and am unable to go. Unfortunately this ticket is unrefundable because I didn't buy it at Xining. It is a hard seat ticket but really it is a soft seat because there is no actual hard seat in the new trains going to Lhasa. I took it before and it is really comfortable and clean.

It is only 226 Yuen, less than what most people pay for going to Lhasa. If you happen to leave tonight, are in Xining and…

We're doing a Lhasa-EBC trip in October, and we're looking into accommodations along the way. There aren't many choices in the smaller towns, and so far we are thinking of the following:

Old Tingri: Everest Snow Leopard Hotel
Rongphu: not the Monastery Guesthouse, but the other newer hotel
Shegar: Kangjong Guesthouse

We're not looking for a lot here, just clean beds. So

1. is it necessary to bring long a bed sheet?
2. is there any possibility of taking a shower (or just getting my hair washed) at…

Hello all,
Finally finished a bit of a mammoth trip and thought I should give some feedback after everyone on these foums helped me out so much.

Took the train from Beijing to Lhasa in May - just when those Americans burnt a flag or something. Supposedly that made travel much more difficult, but I get the impression that travel in tibet (outside of the lhasa region) is always a bit tricky. I stayed at Leos hostel in Beijing and got them to organise the required permit along with the train ticket…

Hello. Ive been planning on trekking to the Everest Area of Nepal through Gokyo-Cho La to Kala Patar but think I should consider the area from the Tibetan Side. I know the views of Everest are much better from Tibet but as for the overall trekking experience including scenery, glimpses of culture and such which would you most reccomend if your lucky enough to have done both? Im sure its subjective but would like to have advice in this area. Cost is a factor. I presume its much more expensive to…

Hello!
I have a doubt... Do you think it is better to book before arriving to Lhasa, or would it be possible to find something when arriving there? we'll arrive the 29th of september, will leave (if everything goes ok) out of Lhasa and EBC the 1st of October and return the 5th or 6th.

We were planning just to arrive in Lhasa, find a hostel and book there as well for the two last nights we're going to spend in Tibet. Do you think it's a good idea? We now it's super high season, so we have some…

Hi Travellers...

I've just posted this on the Kazakhstan thread, but then realised that much of the train journey would be in China/Tibet...

Does anyone know how long it would take to get from Almaty (Kazakhstan) to Lhasa by train (then perhaps fly out of Kathmandu to the UK?). I've done a search, but still can't work this out. This is my plan for next spring/summer, but I have quite limited time.

I think I'd like to take the route: Almaty (Kaz) - Urumqi (China) - Lhasa (Tibet). It looks the…
