I'm having difficulty deciding between staying in Gorkha or Shambala (either House or Palace). Can someone please advise?

We will coming in after a 7-day overland trip in from the remotest part of Qinghai. Was thinking of may be a nice hotel to relax in.

Shambala looks fancy (but not sure if its worth the price) and Gorkha gets good reviews.

I'm planning to travel to Nepal and then on to Lhasa in November, and I will most likely fly from Kathmandu instead of driving. Questions:
1) Is it best to wait until I get to Kathmandu to arrange the permit, visa, and flight to Lhasa? If yes, do you have recommendations? If not, what course of action do you recommend?
2) How long will it take to arrange the permit, visa, and flight/tour if I wait until Kathmandu?
3) I heard reports that I will need to hire a tour guide even though I will…

hello there.
Does any body have any information on how to apply for a Chinese Visa, while leaving through Tibet to kathmandu, The issue is that in order to apply. You have to produce your means of travel into China (flight) and also how you are leaving China. Which in my case is leaving by Tibet onto Nepal. but obviously i cant mention Tibet on my visa application.

So do you have to buy a flight out of china to obtain the chinese visa or has anyone got any ideas.
Many thanks in advance for…

  1. We (5 people) booked a trip at Sim's this July. Everything was just perfect. The guide (Tibetan) helped us with both the sights and around the towns in Tibet (Lhasa, Shigatse, Gyantse).
  2. All necessary equipment can be purchased in Lhasa in numerous shops. Much cheaper than in Chengdu, for example.
  3. In Lhasa we stayed at Yak Hotel. Nice place, but the neareby Pentoc Restaurant, which is recommended in Lonely Planet, 'd better be avoided. The staff tend to "recall" some extra sums which we…

I have received quotes from travel agencies in Chengdu for my Lhasa to Nepal border tour. I am not sure yet if I will be leaving from Chengdu or Beijing. One Chengdu agency has said they can arrange my train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa no problem. Can anyone foresee any problems with this arrangement?
My worries are :-
1. I thought in China you could only buy tickets in the city of departure.
2. Would it be sensible to book with an agency so far away from my departure point.
3. Any problems would…

Dear All,

Just a question.

Do u consider a good price USD 1510/per person for a Privat Tour of 16 day Itinerary starting in Lhasa and finishing in the nepalese border, passing to these main places: Gyantse, Xigatse, Sakya, Lake Manasorovar, Kailash and Guge.
Food and accomodation are not inclued in this package.

If u think is too expensive, could u please suggest me a better option?

Thank u very much in advance
Cheers

K.
