Dear friends, hearing a lot of good news about people hitching to Lhasa from Yunnan, I have decided to try my luck. Is anybody out there who did this recently? Could you help with information about ways of transport /buses, trucks.../, checkposts, etc.? I would be most gratefull. Looking forward to your replay, mis

I think it's a bit difficult to hitchhike out of Lhasa because it's just more difficult to find the right vehicle the same as your way. I haven't hitchhiked in Tibet for at least 6 years, but if I were you, I would take a bus to Meldro Gongkar which isn't too far away from Lhasa, then hitchhike along the Hwy 318 and 214 (after Markham).

Although you aren't cyclist, I think some information of other cyclists should be useful for you. Search "Ferchaux" on Google, he's a French and have lots of information including road condition, altitude and kilometer markers along the highway, AND, most important for you, the location of checkpoints.
