It´s driving me crazy!
I don´t know if it´s the same city or 2 cities or 3 o 4 cities.
Can you help me?

Also I have more questions...

Yamdro and Nam Tso Lakes... are the same?
If not, which is better?

Is it better to sleep in Giantse or in Shigatse?
This is the tour we are trying to make:

Día 4: Lhasa-Tsedang-Gyantse- Shigatse.
Yamdrok , Karola, Pelkor

Día 5: Shigatse-Shegar (NewTingri)
Tashilumpo & Sakya

Is it ok? Possible?

Thanks a lot!

Namtso Lake is to the north of Lhasa and Yamdrok Tso Lake is heading south towards Gyantse. Have only been past Yamdrok Tso Lake so cant compare them.
Shegar and Tingri arent the same place, Tingri is further south. Shegar is also known as New Tingri. On our trip to EBC, we did:-
Lhasa- Gyantse
Gyantse- Sakya
Sakya- EBC
EBC- Shigatse
Shigatse- Lhasa

yamdrok tso doesn't have a wopping 80-100yuan fee on it as namtso does which is unavoidable, although if you stop at the top of the pass at yamdrok tso you can expect about a 40-50 yuan fee these days, but it just as picturesque to carry on your way and stop a little further down for nix. Ubkess you have some great interest to visit all the lakes in tibet then iI would skip namtso and take in yamdrok tso on the way to gyantse myself

Only thing is at the top of the pass on the way to Yamdrok Tso, you run the gauntlet with stalls and animals waiting to be photographed. But I bought some nice chunky jewellery there. Dont remember paying any "fee" but thats not to say we didnt pay one.

stalls people and animals dissappeared in 2007, whisked away , a fee was installed in 2008 haphazardly , for stopping at the top of the pass looking out over Yamdrok tso.

Xegar/Shegar/Tingri/New Tingri

Ok!
So...

We have:
Shegar, New Tingri (same place)
Tingri
Xegar (It does exist?)

Which is better to spend the night before to go to EBC? We prefer stay in a nice place than in a place dedicated to turist who will climb the montains, because we don´t need anything of equipment or food. I´m sorry, I think I can't explain it better ¬¬

Thanks a lot to all of you for your answers!

sakya is more interesting to stay than New tingri( aka shegar aka xegar), sakya is closer to shigatse but is also a driveable distance to everest national park the next morning.,

otherwise from your chocies , stay New Tingri ( also known as shegar and xegar)

OP, I think you're getting a little confused. Tourists cannot climb the mountain but can only go as far up the mountain as Base Camp. All the hotels between Lhasa and EBC cater to tourists, not those who pay large amounts to climb the mountain.

OK....say...."Xegar". Now ....say "Shegar" sounds the same.....is the same!

You'll find in Tibet that many Tibetan places are spelled in both English phonetics of the original Tibetan and also Pinyin versions. If you're ensure - its all about what the name sounds like.

Xigatse = Shigatse Lhasa = Lasa Chomolungma = Qumolungma etc etc
