I guess I should be more specific. I am a twenty something male, looking for a volunteer opportunity in Tibet for a month or so. I am interested in anything really: farming, orphanage, medical, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if it's volunteering for a month why be so prescriptive? why not just rural China,? One of the best most useful things I can suggest is take a bag ( and rubber gloves) and pick up any garbage near rural streams, along your travels...this should keep anyone busy for a month.

There are very few volunteer opportunities in Tibet (assuming you are referring to the Tibetan Autonomous Region) If you look at previous posts on the subject here on TT you'll find a couple of orphanages in Lhasa that take foreign vollies. But generally the permit situation and political paranoia makes volly opportunities very rare.

There are far more opportunities in other Tibetan areas in Yunnan, Western Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai.

For example check out this organisation - http://www.shangrilaassociation.org/en/index.htm

There are a number of volunteer opportunities in Tibetan areas. While those in Lhasa are much slimmer due to the restrictions, there are great organizations working in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, and northern Yunnan. Check out Jatson Chumig (Lhasa), Shechen Orphanage (Sichuan), and Kham Aid, among others.
