Hi. Thanks so much for the helpful posts and information. We are planning the Tsuphu Yangpacken trek in August with Snowlion Tours and welcome others to join us.

We will be camping 3 nights. Not sure if it makes sense to schlep all the equipment? Is it possible to rent decent quality tents and sleeping bags in Lhasa for a reasonable cost? Also, due to a shoulder injury, I am afraid I may not be able to carry my pack. I am told I may hire a yak and a yak-man. Is this feasible? costly?

Many thanks,

You can rent tent and sleeping bags in Lhasa.
I think it's about 50 yuan per tent per day. It is usually counted from the day you rent it until the day you give it back.
I suggest you to buy your own tent, because at the end it'll be more or less same amount of money.
Regarding hiring a yak, you may need to ask locals. I m not so sure about exact prices, but I think locals charge about 30-60 yuan per day. I assume, you'll also need to pay return days as well.
Hope this helps.

  1. In Lhasa city, there're a lot of descent tents and sleeping bags for renting, you can easily buy or rent those you like.
  2. Yes, you may hire a yak and a yakman, both of which cost 100 RMB per day. But, you'd better ask the local when you get there. And you may also bargain to bring the price down. Usually, if you hire 3 yaks, it can be arranged by 2 yankmen.
    Hope this helps.
