I am planning a trip to Tibet/Nepal around July/August this year. I will be traveling along with a friend.

The trip will only be 9days, so given the limitations of our time, trekking wouldn't be our priority. Although, if time allows, we will be keen in spending a night or two near the base camp of Everest, if not a place that will allow us to appreciate the mountainous scenery of the country.

Is 5days enough for us to travel across the plains of Kathmanthu all the way to Lhasa by a Jeep? The plan is simply to visit famous landmarks around Tibet/Nepal to snap pictures. Or would taking a jet from Kathmanthu be more advisable?

Are there any recommended agencies that can fulfill our trip in such a short time? And how hard is it to get a permit into Tibet? We are both Singaporean Chinese that can speak fluent Mandarin.

Would be preferable to fly to Lhasa and overland out especially in terms of elevations. See if you can find any posts by vistet, he has written extensively about it.

I am August last year to Tibet tourism, Chengdu-Lhasa-Shigatse-Mt. Everest-Lhasa-Chengdu, so If you are 9 days, you can go to Mt. Everest.see message

Taking 5 days to go from Lhasa to the Nepal border is possible and you can see a lot of what this route has to offer.

Currently, the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) is closed to foreign travelers, however it most likely will be reopening in the near future. When it does reopen, getting travel permits will be easy. All arrangements for travel in the TAR are made by a travel agency. The only thing you need to do is decide the itinerary you wish to follow. The agency literally takes care of everything else.

Read the following link of mine below for information on how to arrange travel in the TAR:

Thank you for all the prompt and warm replies.

Unfortunately, my traveling mate can only be committed to travel for 6days and given the time constraint, we have decided to drop the idea of touring Tibet altogether and stick with Nepal for the full 6days.

Hopefully conquering the grounds of Tibet will be possible in the near future with all your helpful replies. Thank you.
