Hi there,

My friends and I are looking to book an overnight 4WD tour to Namtso on the 10th September. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what company to book with? Any idea what an average price is? Also, any reccomendations on equipment to bring/where to hire it? Thanks!

Hi

Tibet is different with other city of China. You should apply a TTB first from a trval agency and then the agency will arrange 4WD.

The altiude of Namtso is higher than Lhasa, so just have a good rest, no other equipent needed.

#1 info is rather biased!!

No need to book with the agency that got your Tibet Entry Permit (Its not called a TTB!!.....in fact the TTB (Tibet Tourism Bureau) which issues the entry permit is now called the TTA......Tibet Tourism Administration!?)

Also no need to book a 4WD..(The road is paved all the way and smooth as a........smooth thing!)

Just walk into any number of small agencies (such as Snowland or the FIT one diagonally opposite) and ask for a minivan. It should cost about 120 - 200 rmb per person. (you have to share the minivan but thats cool)

I would recommend taking a sleeping bag or at the very least a sheet to protect you from the skanky blankets in the Tashi Dor Guesthouses!

Despite the 600-1000 tourist arrivals per day....it is an amzing place (and most of the tourists leave in the afternoon!! )

Do the Kora in the morning before the herds arrive!!

ENJOY!
