We're traveling the Lhasa - Nepal route in October and currently have 6 people with others interested. The tour agency says we can fit 8 people in the van. Is 8 tight by western standards? Should we limit to 6 people?
It would be way crowded to fit 8 people in a van.
The max capacity for a minivan is 8 people. But where you put all your luggages? Besides, the road in some part of Tibet is bumpy and winding. For your safety concern, beetter ask your agency change to a larger coach instead. Say 14-seat or 19-seat coach, the price wont go higher as you already have this number of people to share it.
Alternatively, hiring two 4-WD land crusier is also workable.
Safe travel.

sounds interesting! if you decide to take more peoble with you, we (a german couple) would be very interested! just let us know!

Most of the vans used in Tibet can carry 11 people, including the driver. So if you have a group of 6, plus a guide and a driver, you will have 8 total people which should be fine in a van. However, I highly recommend contacting your agency to see exactly what type of van they plan to use for your trip to be sure that you will have enough space.

hi,
the people here in chengdou propose different prices for the van or the 4 WD - depending on the road conditions... but then, with 8 people it would be cheaper with 2 4WDs as well than with 6 people
