Hi,
Can anyone help me with cheap accomodation and cheap and RELIABLE person/travel agency where we can rent a Land Cruiser for a 5-day trip in Lhasa? (We are on low budget, but try to get as much as possible from Tibet)
1.) We are planning to fly from Beijing to Lhasa. I have heard that in Beijing in October it is possible to get some discount for the plain ticket? Can anyone give an indication for the price? And where to buy the ticket?
2.) Some good hostel in Lhasa? Mainly what is the price? Do they have discount in October?
3.) Where to rent a Land Cruiser? At a reliable, Tibetian and cheap agency? Or at a hostel?
As we are a couple, we need two more people to share the costs.
We would like to make the following trip in 5 days:
Lhasa - Yamdrok-Tso Lake - Gyantse(overnight) - Shigatse - Sakya(overnight) - EBC (overnight, maybe 2) - Lhasa
What is the appr. price for this trip? Accommodation and food included?
Some advice regarding with the trip?
4.) Is it easy to buy a ticket from Lhasa to Chengu?
We are a Hungarian couple, and we will spend 7-8-9 days in Tibet from 17th October, but as we do not speak neither Chinese nor Tibetian, so I just want to get a little feedback from the possibilities in Tibet.
I do not want to organise anything in advance, but want to make a great trip there, and a bit afraid of the language difficulties.
Thanx
Gergo

2) Yak Hotel is my favorite place in Lhasa- it's not as cheap as the other hostels (30Y versus 25Y, last time I was there in April- that was low season though) but it's clean (unlike Kirey) and the staff is friendly (unlike Dongcuo/ Intl Youth Hostel) and the location is very good (more central than Banak Shol).
If you really do want a cheaper place, I'd say go with Banak Shol.
3) Go to Banak Shol's FIT to arrange the trip. They're relatively honest and the driver I got there was pretty good- ask for Sonam to be your driver. I don't remember the cost off the top of my head, but I think it was Y3600-4000, which included renting the landcruiser, the driver, and permits. It is standard in Tibet for you to pay for your food, entrance fees and and accomodation on your own.
