Hi All

I've got my eye on a tour to Tibet for £1400. This includes a one way sleeper train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa, a guide in Tibet for 12 days, travelling around Tibet (i.e. not just Lhasa), and eventually ending up in Kathmandu. The whole trip is 15 days in total, and the permit, and accomodation are also included in the price. The only extra expense will be food and drink.

I understand trips to Tibet are fairly expensive anyway, but I wanted to see how it compared to other Tibet tours anyone else has been on. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks

Were you quoted in GBP's or is that a converted price from RMB. Also is that the price for just one person as part of a group or a tour for one?

Hi - I did a search online and this tour came up - the price was in GBPs, and it was as part of a small group. I get the impression that the price is fixed, and isn't any cheaper if more people join in. I'm guessing it might be cheaper if I shop around for a guide just for the Tibet part, and buy my own train ticket.

if you want a one person solo tour this might be about right. if you want to go on a group tour this is dramatically overpriced.

Based on what you wrote, it seems way, way overpriced (though it depends on how expensive your hotels in Lhasa and Shigatse are and what types of meals you will be eating). I recommend contacting a local Tibetan owned agency in Lhasa or Xining. Again, this price for a single travelers seems way expensive to me.
