Tibet from Kathmandu December or January?

I don't know how you define short notice but I don't think that you can organize a trip from Kathmandu overland to Tibet in a day or two. Generally it takes several days to locate a company, make arrangements and obtain the necessary visas.

You should be able to find companies in Kathmandu without internet access.

BTW I don't think you will find any flights from Lhasa to SEAsia. You should plan your departure from Lhasa now while you have internet access.

Thanks for the input Everbrite. Just to share info that might be useful to others it is indeed possible to fly out of Lhasa to SE Asia, of course not directly, some routes (to Philippines for example) are actually pretty affordable (around 200 dollars one way).
The short notice already includes time to sort out permits, I need to know if somebody is planning to go there during late December or January from KTM and wishes to share the costs.

I am curious who flies from Lhasa to the Philippines for 200 USD one way. Flights from Lhasa to points in China all seem to be more expensive than that.

I am travelling to Nepal and will be in Kathmandu from 10th Dec. I have 3 weeks in which I would like to spend a week (or so) in Tibet. The rest of the time I would like to explore Nepal.

Anyway let me know what everyone thinks and we can take it from there.

It is possible to travel from Kathmandu to Lhasa, Tibet and back, but there is no independent in Tibet. You need to preplan your trip, you must have a guide and driver, you need a permit and a special Chinese visa which can only be arranged in Kathmandu. I suggest ready more about it.

Hi all,

I am visiting family and friends from New Zealand and in Nepal until mid-February. I and my cousin are planning to do a Tibet travel while I am here around those mentioned dates.

We are however, returning back to Kathmandu and not going any further than Lhasa. We still haven't worked out the cost yet.
