Greeting from Sim and Maki, the previous owner of Sim's Cozy Garden Hostel

We established the smaller "Sim's Cozy Guesthouse" in Jan 2004, and moved to the present location in the end of 2007. We've been running for 7 years but now we are going to hand over the property and new owner will run this place from Dec 2010.

Since we moved to this big hostel, we thought it is very difficult to run all the thing properly. Because we had 100 rooms, big restaurant area, the travel agency (tours to Tibet) and over 40 staff...

Also this year it has been getting even more difficult, because commodity prices keep rising but there are two more new hostels opened and this made it more competitive. And then there is someone who wants to buy this place turned up. It was very difficult for us to make the decision to hand over this hostel, which is one of our precious daughters.

But at the end we thought it is better to make another ideal guesthouse in future. We will make a smaller guesthouse and no more pressing ourselves too much and enjoy being with travellers. We haven't decided the next location yet but the new one also will be called "Sim's" and for sure it will be absolutely good place!

And of course we still keep going to travel and hope to see you guys somewhere in the world.

Cheers!

Sim and Maki

It's a pity that Chengdu lost your hotel, and I do look forward to your new cozy hotel in the near future!

Many thanks to Sim and Maki for their extremely hard work in creating the best hostel in China! For the past 7 years, you have given your time to the travelers and backpackers who have come through Chengdu. You are some of the most giving and hospitable people I have ever come across and you will be dearly missed in Chengdu!

Thank you for all that you have done for my family and me over the years! Please keep all of us posted on your future plans.

Hello Sim and Maki
I was at your hostel this year at 3 different times in may and june.
I liked the way the staff talked about you and the way they were happy with their work. The staff was also very honest and helpful. So they did give the place a good spirit. I hope the new owners will be a little fair to the staff.

I remember seeing your children around and looking at the photo books with family pictures you had in the corner near the phones. I understand it's a big operation to run such a place. There is no time left for family life or whatever else.
I thank you for the chance I had to feel home away from home at your place.
Wish you the very best for the future

Hi, guys

Sorry for the very very late reply... I seldom visit thronetree.

What a nice message we have got from you! We do enjoying spending more time with family but we miss the life we used to have at our hostel, and feel so sorry for the travellers who need our help! People always want too much and we have to choose either one. But are trying to figure out how to be engaged in tourism, and taking care of family at the same time. So we keep in touch and see you again!

Sim and Maki
